Imagine it is the middle of winter and you are living in the northern climate. Suddenly the power is out and you have no idea when it will be back. The temperature is continuing to dip down below the freezing point and your mind is beginning to numb. You are raking your minds how to keep yourself warm and not become another victim to this ever-growing heat. Well, if you are stuck in such a situation, do not panic as we are here to give you some amazing hacks to save yourself from the cold clutches of winter.

1. Keep Your Head Covered

You might think who wears caps and headgears inside. Well, if you want to keep yourself warm without an external heating system, you need to wear warm caps and hats. It is an important tradition that has been there for centuries.

2. Say Hello To Wool

Your best friend in winters is probably wool. Wear plenty of woolen items and it will keep you warm throughout the long chilly winter season.

3. Keep Your Feet Dry

If you feel that despite wearing at least two pairs of socks, you are feeling cold, it is probably because you are sweating. You can also try to wear a thin cotton sock as the innermost layer and the woolen ones on top.

4. Eat and Drink Warm

Consuming warm foods can help in keeping you warm. If it is possible to get some warm food, you can try having some spiced hot cider, coffee, oatmeal or hot chocolate.

Even some warm water can do the trick. Make sure you use an insulated container so that you do not lose all that heat to the environment.

5. Sleep Together

Try to sleep together as it helps in keeping warm. Children should not be sent to sleep in separate rooms, especially when they cannot be trusted to keep themselves covered throughout the night. At any cost, if you stack several beds in one room, it will become cozier.

6. Use Flannel Sheets

Instead of using thin cotton sheets, make use of flannel sheets as they are heavy and will help you to keep comfortable, even without trying.

7. Be Active

This is a common theory that as you stop moving, your body begins to cool off. Therefore, it is necessary that you remain active and especially keep your fingertips moving. Instead of reading to pass your time, try knitting or crocheting and keep warm.

8. Block Off Rooms

Try to stay in a small room as they are easier to warm up. Block off big rooms and keep all your activities concentrated in one room so that it can be warmed up easily.

The blocked off rooms have an added advantage as they act as a buffer against the chilly outdoors. When you enter into these buffer rooms, you will experience the shock of cold.

9. Say No To Cigarettes

Yes, you read it right. Do not smoke. You might think that it will make your chest feel warm, but this momentary relief will shunt the blood supply to your hands. You might not believe it but a single puff has the ability to lower the temperature of your fingertips by 1-3 degrees Fahrenheit in just three minutes!

10. Use Candles

Although they seem small, candles are known to add a bit of mystic aura and heat to the room. You can use beeswax candles enriched with essential oils or unscented paraffin candles.

I hope that these handy tricks will help you survive the long, wintery nights comfortably.
